9. Chicken Pets, Scenic Nagrand, Hats and more..

Text for "Off the Beaten Path" from [ Epic Dolls Podcast #26 ]

If you enjoy collecting pets in WoW, not hunter pets, the other non-combatant kind like a cute little cat or praerie dog, here’s a quest that actually offers you an unusual pet as a quest reward.

MECHANICAL CHICKEN PET

Yep! You can get your own mechanical chicken pet and not be an engineer. While this one won’t fight for you like the Engineered Battle Chicken, it is an unusual pet you can obtain in-game by completing the quest. Who wouldn’t want a Mechanical Chicken?

In each of 3 zones, Feralas, Hinterlands, or Tanaras (including Zul’Farak), an OOX Homing Robot (a robotic chicken) has been lost, and needs rescuing. You need to hunt in the three zones and eventually the homing beacon is dropped for the robot in that zone. Each homing beacon offers a quest to find the corresponding homing robot. Once you have found the robot, you are offered a quest to rescue it.

These rescues involve following the robot to a point where it can take off on its own. It is a standard escort-type quest which has three points where you get attacked or ambushed by by mobs.

When you have completed all 3 rescue escorts and Oglethorpe Obnoticus in Booty Bay will reward you with a scale model of the OOX robot. ... “With the combat and homing mechanisms disabled, of course. Wouldn't want it pecking someone's eye out...”

Quest: Oglethorpe's Homing Robots quest chain

Started by [OOX-22/FE Distress Beacon]

ZONE: Feralas, Hinterlands, Tanaris ending in Booty Bay

ZONE LEVEL: 48-50

FACTION: Alliance or horde

SCENIC Places to See

Just south of the gates of Stormwind, Elwyyn Forest, keeping along the rocky hillside stop before you reach the Mirror Lakewater fall. You can easily climb west up slope all the way to the top of the falls. This area is called Thunder Falls and its home to another Defias encampment. If you want you can ransack their little camp, pillage all their stuff, and take over the area. haha

But seriously, the view from the top of the falls overlooks Elwynn forest and is a really scenic spot that I hope you take a moment to visit. By the way, if you travel further west up that river you eventually reach Westfall and overlook the zone or head into it.

Zone: Elwynn Forest

Faction: Alliance (not sure how close this would make Horde get tagged)

Level: 10

A CURIOUS ISLAND

Nagrand, Outlands, is probably one of the most beautiful and unusual zones. The sky alone is worth looking at, but the floating islands above the zone hold special interest too. Floating near the town of Telaar is a floating island with a water fall. Where the all that water is coming from, who knows?

Just slightly north above the town of Garadar is an island that is quite different that all the rest. It’s a small one with a tree full of apples. There are apples strewn about the little ground and butterflies flit about the undergrowth. However, there is an armored skeleton, perhaps a noble knight, resting against the tree. Wonder what his story is?
Thanks to Kynas for showing me that one.

BABIES

If you are flying in Nagrand, fly slightly north east of Laughing Skull Ruins into the mountainous terrain on the way to Zangarmarsh. It appears that Challe, the troll still runs her orphanage and asks you to remain quiet as the babies are sleeping. All the races and their children are present, but the little Tauren babies are the cutest. Would they be called calves?

Who knew that trolls were the maternal type?

RPing Tips

Dressing the Part

Your character may have a unique pet and a story that goes along with it. If you enjoy RPing or are thinking about trying out RP, you may also want to dress you character for the part. This would be clothing that your character would wear outside of their gear or questing armor. Unusual garments can help your character stand out and people take notice.

Fortunately, there is so much clothing available inside the auction house, player made, and Vendors that you have many options. For example, you may play a warrioress, but when she’s not beheading clefthoofs with her two-handed axe, she going to the tavern for a cup of wine in nice lady-like dress. You may have a feral druid who is primal and animal like, so she tends to wear something which allows movement (another way of saying skimpy) such as Warbear Woolies.

There are several NPC merchants who sell hats, regular hats of various looks (not gear-type hats). For example, Evan Larson in the mage quarter in Stormwind sells hats, Dulcia in Feathermoon Stronghold sells an embroidered and a russet hat (the large brimmed hats). She also sells some cloth garmets that are very performer or bard looking. You may wish to check vendors such as Lucille Castleton in Undercity who sells robes, and Geenia Sunshadow in Moonglade who sells unusual dresses you can’t really find any where such as the Dangui and Hanboks.

Don’t be afraid to find matching sets of clothing in the Auction house that are considered cloth even if your character is a plate class like a paladin. For example, your character enjoys spiders and so may have a dress such as “Window’s Clutch” robe that has a spider design on the front.

Have fun!
