7. Quests, Places to See, and RPing Tip

This is the text from "Off the Beaten Path" [ Epic Dolls Podcast #23 ]

QUESTS

Fallen Hero of the Horde

FACTION: Horde or Alliance

LEVEL: level 60

ZONE: The Road between Swamp of Sorrow and Blasted Lands.

Along the lonely cobblestone road which leads out of the Swamp of Sorrow into the seering horizon of Blased Lands is a ghostly orc. If you are appropriately leveled, he stops you and asks you to listen to his story. He mentions the tragic demise of him and his people at the hands of demonlord
Razelikh (razzle-lick) the Defiler and provides you details on how to avenge him.

This is an fascinating quest line for both Alliance and Horde. This adventure eventually leads you to a unexpected place, Azshara. If you have ever wondered about Loramus Thalipedes, the demonhunter standing on a small rocky island in the bay of Azshara, this quest leads you to his story.

You can find more details about this expedition or the start of this quest at WoWwiki dot com [ A Tale of Sorrow ].

At this time, I would like to mention one of my favorite outland quests! Although the efficient way Outlands quest-series are easier to follow and everyone has done them, this is still one of the best quests.

The ABYSSAL SHELF

Faction:
Alliance or Horde

Level:
58/62

ZONE:
Hellfire Peninsula (Burning Crusade)

CONTACT
: Forward Commander/Wing Commander

This quest is an extension of the Through the Dark Portal quest series when you come to Outlands (Burning Crusade required). The quest is available to Alliance and Horde through their respective quest givers.

In this adventure, you are given a flying mount and bombs. You are asked to drop the explosives on the Burning Legion who are running amok on a rocky landscape below you called the Abyssal Shelf. Since the quest is repeatable at anytime, when my character is in the area, I go and drop a few bombs on the legion. Woot!

You can find details about this quest at Thottbot dot com, [ The Abyssal ] (a-biss-al) Shelf.

Interesting Place to See

LEVEL: 13

ZONE: Eversong Woods

FACTION: Horde

In the Expansion Burning Crusade, it seems that there are fewer Off the Beaten Path places to see… And most of those places have quest givers which are much easier to see due to the big yellow question mark on your game’s minimap. It seems Blizzard did a better job in this Expansion using all the available landscape to better direct the flow of gamers doing quests.

But that didn’t stop me from discovering an interesting little spot with my newbie [Epic] Dolls Bloodelf .

In Eversong woods, not many people continue heading west past the Scorched Woods once they finish the quest there. But if you are like me, you might have kept going just to see what’s beyond it. All the way west of those woods is a small water inlet between Eversong Woods and Ghostlands -- called the Golden Strand. If you swim out into the bay, you will notice a series of submerged ships. While there are no quest givers and the only company are MEAN Yellowtail Frenzies, the ships are easy to reach by swimming. I searched the larger of the sunken ships ---- which turned out to be a profitable exploration! I found a treasure chest and a giant clam – and for newbie, finding treasure is always useful.
Gotta love Blizzard, you never know what you might find.

Role Playing Tip
What is RP or an RP server?

If you were scrolling through the game’s server list, you may have noticed that some of the servers have an “RP” under “Type.” RP stands for “Role Play.” There are two types of Role Player servers, the RP is role-play in a PVE (player verses environment) and RP-PVP for Role-play –Player vs. Player”

Either RP server type is a Role-Play preferred server. Role Play means that you attempt portray your character within the game as an actor would portray a role for a movie or a play. For some gamers, the idea of immersing themselves into the world fuels their creativity and allows them an added dimension to their gaming experience and to their enjoyment of the world that WoW has created.

Blizzard writes in their [ Role Playing Policy ], “Creating an immersive world that holds true to the "Base Storyline" of the World of Warcraft is the driving motivation behind our Role-Play Servers. While other servers allow you to play World of Warcraft, these servers are intended to let you live World of Warcraft.

Maybe you have seen the RP servers and have thought about trying it out but aren’t sure how to begin or are looking for something creative to do between raid and arena days. I thought I would provide some 6 starter points--

  1. Most RPers know a little bit about the Lore of Warcraft world. You easily can find out more of the lore by reading the “War of the Ancients” Book Series, or from what Warcraft has provided on their website. Go to: www.worldofwarcraft.com, click on Game Guide, Click on introduction, then click on Story. Even if you don’t RP, this information is worth reading. Blizzard did an amazing job crafting this world.
  2. After knowing a bit of lore, the idea is to come up with a small background story for your character. It can be as simple as what your character’s last name is or why your character is the alliance or the horde and what city are they from. You may also want to throw in a fun detail such as why your character likes Cherry Grog over Mead or that they have a pet cat with one ear.
  3. Most RPers when their character is in a major city tend to walk instead of run. If think about it, in real life, YOU don’t run around your city or home town. So, it makes sense. Walking in the game signifies to other role-players that this person is ready to role-play.
  4. Instead of typing in general chat to ask, “Healdin LFG ZF” An RPer might type instead, Paladin of the Light seeks noble adventuring party to foray into Zul’Farrak and disabuse the foul Sandfury trolls of their Mojo.
  5. Where do you find RPers? Most RPers tend to gather in taverns and inns in a major city like Stormwind or Silvermoon.
  6. Although not required, many RPers tend to an addon called [ MyRolePlay ] which allows you to add titles, middle and surnames, and other information about your character that other RPers can read while in the game.
